I think its very possible that Leafy did hate Janie. Unfortunately, a rape victim will often project that anger somewhere, and in this case, it could have been Janie.
This is very true, but who knows how we would react in the same situation. It is sad, though, isn't it?
And you are right...the dialect is great. I think its easier to listen to than it is to read. I have tried to read the book before and haven't been able to finish it.
